History of rosewood Florida
The Town of Rosewood was founded in 1845. The town's main industry was logging. The name Rosewood refers to the red color of cut cedar wood. Over time, the town erected two pencil mills, several turpentine mills, and a saw mill. Along with that, the town was big for farming citrus and cotton. Also in 1970 the Florida Railroad started at Rosewood. Originally, the town's population was both black and white. But due to the decimation of cedar trees, the pencil mills shut down and the majority of the white residence moved to Sumner. By 1900 the population was mostly black.
